History (MVT)
West Sussex Area HistoryThe West Sussex area was formed in January 2003 by Andy Kyte. Andy has been involved with Military Vehicles for nearly 20 years and has great enthusiasm for all "Green Machines".
![]() Andy joined the former "Solent Area" where his enthusiasm grew until he decided to address the large void of members in West Sussex without representation or recognition. After initial enquiries it was decided that "West Sussex " would join the 45 or so other local areas and try to bring all the area members together. Initial response was fantastic with over 50 members joining there and then, and with numbers growing all the time the area can now boast over 300 members ! In the beginning the club was run without a committee or treasurer, unfortunately as the club grew so did the workload and Andy was very grateful for the assistance of Jill Marshall as vice area secretary and Alan Madge as treasurer. However the initial aim remains the same - to put the fun back into the hobby, bringing people together and trying to dispense with the politics that can so often get in the way of things. The club also offers a network system for members offering technical advice and help in all aspects of vehicle ownership, restoration and operation. Meetings often take the form of a quick briefing about up and coming shows, followed by an evening of discussions and informal talk amongst the members. In the summer members are invited to bring along vehicles and put them on display in the pub car park where they are greatly appreciated by all! The West Sussex area supports as many local events and charities as it can. We try to support a different local charity each year. Meeting are held on the first Tuesday of every month at the "The White Swan Hotel " - Arundel - 7.30/8.00. Meetings are informal and anyone is welcome to attend. You don't have to own a vehicle, as long as you appreciate these wonderful machines ! Contact Mark Taylor (01243) 823436 or email Webmaster
